Redken or Redken Brews: Which Shampoo Suits Your Hair?

Choose All Soft for dry lengths and Extreme for damaged hair. Amino Mint is for oily roots; Hair Cleansing Cream is for buildup. Redken Brews also offers straightforward washes such as Daily, Mint and 3-in-1. Start with what you want to clean or condition.

Roots can turn oily quickly while the ends stay dry. One shampoo does not have to do every job. Choose the wash for your scalp, then add conditioner where the hair feels rough or is difficult to comb.

All Soft or Extreme: dry is not always damaged

All Soft for softness

All Soft is designed for dry, brittle hair. If the lengths feel rough, the ends catch when you comb them or your hair lacks softness, this is a reasonable starting point. The shampoo cleanses; the conditioner adds care and helps with detangling.

With longer hair, it is easy to separate the two steps: shampoo for washing, conditioner through the lengths and ends. Begin with a small amount, especially on fine hair.

Extreme for damaged hair fibres

Extreme is Redken’s range for damaged and overprocessed hair. It is the more relevant choice when lightening or frequent heat styling has left the hair damaged and breakage is a concern.

Redken - Extreme Shampoo - 300ml

Extreme Conditioner complements the routine, helps detangle the hair and makes the lengths feel smoother. Choose the extra care according to what your hair length needs.

Oily roots or product buildup?

Amino Mint for the roots

Amino Mint is designed to cleanse an oily scalp and roots that become greasy quickly. If your roots are oily while the lengths are dry, split the jobs: shampoo at the scalp, conditioner only through the lengths that need it.

Apply Amino Mint to wet hair, lather and rinse thoroughly. Do not confuse it with Brews Mint. Both names mention mint, but they are different products with different priorities.

Hair Cleansing Cream for buildup

When clay, paste, dry shampoo or other products leave residue, the job is different from washing naturally oily roots. Hair Cleansing Cream is a cleansing shampoo. Despite the name, it is not a conditioning cream that stays in your hair.

Redken says it removes product residue, excess oil and hard water mineral buildup. Work it through wet hair and rinse. Repeat only if needed and follow the directions on your bottle. Use it when residue remains.

Where does Redken Brews fit?

Brews is Redken’s grooming range. Three straightforward distinctions help with the hair care choice:

  • Daily Shampoo is for uncomplicated cleansing and frequent use. Its name does not set your washing schedule.
  • Mint Shampoo cleanses with a cooling mint feel.
  • 3-in-1 combines shampoo, conditioner and body wash. It is convenient if you want one product for hair and body.

When we checked on 5 October 2026, these Brews shampoos were unavailable online. The linked pages show their individual status. For the four needs above, the comparison points you towards the relevant Redken alternatives.

For dry lengths, separate shampoo and conditioner steps give you more control over where and how much care you apply.

Where to apply shampoo and conditioner

  1. Wet the hair thoroughly. Apply a little shampoo to the scalp first and massage gently.
  2. Lather and rinse well. With Hair Cleansing Cream, work the cleanser through the lengths that carry residue too.
  3. After washing, distribute conditioner where the hair needs care. Redken’s All Soft and Extreme directions specify the lengths and ends.
  4. Leave these two conditioners for one to two minutes as directed, then rinse thoroughly. Other treatments have their own instructions.

Start with the scalp when washing your hair. Distribute conditioner through the lengths and ends. Use a little at first and rinse thoroughly.

Gilberto de la Fuente, The Good Barbers

Very short hair has few lengths to work through. A small amount on the dry areas may be enough. If fine hair feels flat after washing, check the amount and placement before adding more conditioning steps.

Three questions about the routine

Do I have to wash daily if the shampoo says Daily?

No. The name describes a product suited to frequent use. How often you wash depends partly on your roots, exercise, styling and how your hair feels. There is no fixed schedule for everyone.

Can I use Amino Mint with All Soft Conditioner?

That split can make sense for oily roots and dry lengths. Cleanse the roots and use a modest amount of conditioner through the lengths. Notice whether your hair feels comfortable and combs easily afterwards.

Do I need Hair Cleansing Cream at every wash?

Choose it for its specific job: residue and buildup. If your usual shampoo cleans well and your hair feels good, you do not need an extra cleansing step.
