Search for the price of a men’s haircut in Zürich and you can find CHF 20, CHF 55 and an average above CHF 70. Those figures are not necessarily wrong. They are usually measuring different services, different parts of the market or very different samples.
In our public-menu check on 28 August 2026, the median starting price among 12 Zürich providers’ nearest equivalent to a full adult haircut was CHF 58.50. A separate eight-venue machine-cut sample had a CHF 38.50 median, while seven fade listings had a CHF 49 median starting price. These are transparent sample results, not an official citywide average.
Prices change, and service names are not standardized. The useful question is not only “How much is a haircut?” but “Which haircut, how much time, and what is included?”
The short answer: three different price bands
| Service type | Listings checked | Median starting price | Observed range |
|---|
| One-length machine cut | 8 | CHF 38.50 | CHF 25–47 |
| Full adult haircut | 12 | CHF 58.50 | CHF 30–89* |
| Fade haircut | 7 | CHF 49 | CHF 30–98* |
*For “from” prices and staff-level ranges, we used the lowest publicly bookable adult price. Some venues charge more for seniority, longer hair, washing or a more involved finish. The ranges therefore describe the listings in this sample, not every possible appointment in Zürich.
As a sensitivity check, removing the three “from” or range-based full-haircut listings leaves nine fixed prices with a CHF 49 median and a CHF 30–89 range. That shift is another reason not to present any small menu sample as the one true Zürich average.
The median is the middle listed price after sorting the sample. We use it instead of a mean because one very high or low listing can pull an average away from what a typical result looks like. Even then, the number only becomes useful once the services are separated.
What we compared
We included venues inside the City of Zürich with an adult men’s haircut price visible on a salon website or live booking page. We recorded prices available on 28 August 2026 and excluded student, child and senior discounts, beard bundles, head shaves, colour services and temporary offers. This was a purposive public-menu sample, not a random market survey.
For the full-haircut sample, we took one nearest equivalent per venue: a classic, normal, fade-or-classic, or general adult haircut that shapes more than one area of the head. Where a menu showed a “from” price or different staff levels, we recorded the lowest adult entry point and marked the difference. The machine and fade figures are separate subsets; they should not be added together or treated as three tiers from the same twelve shops.
The complete calculation is available in our 27-row source dataset (CSV). It records each observation’s service, price flag, duration, inclusion note and source type.
Identity note: Competitor names have been replaced with stable labels A–K. The same label identifies the same venue in every category and CSV row. The Good Barbers remains named because we publish this comparison and are part of the sample.
| Public menu | Adult haircut used | Listed time | Scope note |
|---|
| Venue A | Men’s haircut, CHF 30 | Not shown | Wash and cut is separately listed at CHF 35. |
| Venue B | Classic haircut, CHF 30 | Not shown | Wash, cut and style is separately listed at CHF 40. |
| Venue C | Cut & Go, CHF 32 | Not shown | Wash, cut and style is separately listed at CHF 37. |
| Venue D | Classic haircut, CHF 40 | 30 min | No item-level inclusions stated. |
| Venue E | Fade or classic, CHF 49 | 45 min | One combined full-haircut category. |
| Venue F | Classic, CHF 58–78 | Not shown | Price varies by barber level; washing and styling products are included. |
| The Good Barbers | Classic haircut, CHF 59 | 40 min | Shampoo and finished styling are included. |
| Venue G | Fade haircut, CHF 65 | 30–45 min* | The displayed duration is ambiguous; no item-level inclusions stated. |
| Venue H | From CHF 65 | 45–60 min | Starting price recorded; cut contents are not itemised. |
| Venue I | Wash, cut and blow-dry, CHF 69–81 | Not shown | Range basis is not stated; shampoo and conditioner are included. |
| Venue J | Haircut, CHF 73 | 45 min | No item-level inclusions stated. |
| Venue K | Classic men’s haircut, CHF 89 | Approx. 55 min | Wash, scissors, clippers, knife and styling are listed as included. |
This is deliberately a comparison of public menu information, not a ranking of shops or haircut quality. A lower price can describe a shorter service, a different technique or a different business model. A higher price does not guarantee a better result for your hair.
The headline numbers online answer different questions. Putting them beside each other without reading the method creates a false comparison.
| Published source | Headline figure | What the figure actually represents |
|---|
| CityHero Zürich | CHF 35 median; CHF 38.45 mean | A large discovery list whose visible services mix machine cuts, discounted groups, full cuts and other definitions. Its displayed venue counts and upper ranges are not consistent across the live page and its August report. |
| Fresha Zürich | “From CHF 15”; FAQ says CHF 30–100 | Dynamic booking inventory across Zürich and the wider area, including machine cuts, full haircuts and different salon types. No city-average method is published. |
| Expatistan | CHF 55 | Seven crowdsourced price points for a standard cut in an expat area. The source itself labels the result a guess. |
| Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Cost Index | CHF 70.14 | Ten highly rated central Zürich salons sampled around January 2026. The publisher says this reflects premium, prime-location pricing and did not normalize washing or styling. |
The honest conclusion is a range, not one magic average. Citywide discovery tools are useful for finding options, but their low end often contains machine-only or discounted services. A central-salon study can be carefully researched and still describe the upper end rather than the whole city.
Machine cut, full haircut and fade are not the same service
One-length machine cut
A one-grade or machine cut normally means one clipper length across the whole head, followed by clean edges. It does not mean a graduated fade, a scissor-shaped top or several blended zones. In our eight-listing subset, the median was CHF 38.50 and the range was CHF 25–47.
Full or classic haircut
A full haircut shapes the sides, crown and top as one result. It may combine clippers, scissor-over-comb and freehand scissor work. The menu may also include consultation, washing and styling, but those extras are not universal. This was the widest and least standardized category in the sample.
Fade haircut
A fade moves gradually between very short and longer sections. The lowest length and the height of the transition are separate decisions, so “skin fade,” “low fade” and “number one on the sides” are not interchangeable instructions. Our seven visible fade listings ran from CHF 30 to CHF 98 when the full staff-tier range was included, with a CHF 49 median starting price. Excluding the one staff-tier range leaves six fixed prices with a CHF 47 median. For help choosing the shape, see our fade and taper guide.
What changes the listed price?
Time and technique: In the menus we checked, a machine-only slot could be 20–30 minutes, while full cuts commonly occupied 30–60 minutes. The service name alone does not tell you how much consultation or finishing time is reserved.
What is included: Some listings explicitly include washing, consultation and styling. Others sell shampoo as a separate version or do not say. Compare the complete service, not only the number beside it.
Barber level: Venue F publishes different classic-cut prices by staff level, from CHF 58 to CHF 78. A “from” price elsewhere may also change once a professional or hair-length option is selected.
Hair length and the requested change: Venue D lists a longer-hair scissor cut above its classic price, while several other menus use a broad haircut label without defining the maximum length or size of the change. A trim and a major restyle may therefore require different bookings even when the service names look similar.
Public menus do not reveal a shop’s complete costs or profit margin, so this comparison does not pretend to explain every franc through rent, wages or products. It only shows the differences a customer can verify before booking.
How to compare haircut prices fairly
- Match the service to the result. If you want one length all over, do not compare that price with a skin fade. If you want a longer scissor shape, do not assume a short classic slot covers it.
- Check the duration. A 20-minute listing and a 60-minute listing are not designed for the same amount of work.
- Look for inclusions. Washing, consultation, styling, razor outlines and hot-towel details may be included, optional or absent.
- Open the booking flow. “From” prices can change with barber level, length or service variation before checkout.
- Describe the change, not only the style name. Mention your current length, the shortest length you want, what should happen on top and whether you want a fade. A reference photo helps clarify scope.

Where The Good Barbers sits in this sample
We are one of the businesses being compared, so our interest should be explicit. On the capture date, our one-grade cut was CHF 39, our classic haircut was CHF 59 and our fade was CHF 69. Against these small category samples, that put the one-grade cut CHF 0.50 above the CHF 38.50 median, the classic CHF 0.50 above the CHF 58.50 median and the fade above the CHF 49 median starting price.
Those comparisons are context, not a quality score. Our current Zürich haircut price page is the authoritative place to check what each service includes and the final price before booking. Both Enge and Europaallee use the same listed service prices.
FAQ
How much does a men’s haircut cost in Zürich in 2026?
In our 12-provider public-menu sample, the median starting price for the nearest equivalent to a full adult haircut was CHF 58.50, with listed entry prices from CHF 30 to CHF 89. This is a dated sample, not an official citywide average.
How much does a fade cost in Zürich?
The seven public fade listings we separated had a CHF 49 median starting price and a full published span from CHF 30 to CHF 98. Skin fades, wash-and-style inclusions and staff-level pricing can change the final amount.
What is the cheapest type of men’s haircut?
A one-length machine or buzz cut is generally the lowest-priced category because it does not include a multi-length fade or a scissor-shaped top. Our eight-listing machine-cut sample ranged from CHF 25 to CHF 47.
Is CHF 59 a normal price for a men’s haircut in Zürich?
CHF 59 was almost exactly the CHF 58.50 median starting price in our 12-provider full-haircut sample. Whether it is good value depends on the time, technique, inclusions and result you need.
Is washing included in a men’s haircut price?
Not always. Some Zürich menus explicitly include shampoo, consultation and styling; others offer washing as a separate service or do not specify it. Check the service description before comparing prices.
How current are these Zürich haircut prices?
We captured the prices on 28 August 2026. Menus can change, so confirm the current service and final amount directly with the provider before booking.
